TORONTO (CP) – The CFL fined Toronto Argonauts receiver Arland Bruce III an undisclosed amount Tuesday after the all-star accused league officials of racism and being on the take.
The league’s action comes one day after the Argonauts also fined Bruce an undisclosed amount. Bruce made his comments after the Argonauts’ 33-24 loss to the Montreal Alouettes in the East Division final Sunday.
He said that the Argos received unfair treatment from the referees because coach Mike (Pinball) Clemons, like Bruce, is black. He also questioned why the league has no black referees.
He went on to accuse the officials of accepting bribes from the Alouettes.
Bruce softened his stance Monday, saying he did not believe the CFL was racist, but he did not apologize for his remarks.
